Our goal is to build a coalition that will advocate for veterans in a single, unified voice. Volunteers are critical in making that happen.
We gather people who can find the time to help feed homeless or low-income veterans and their families. Provide rides to appointments, make sure that widows and widowers don’t feel left behind.
We need people to help with events, social media, marketing – donate your skills.
Our Community Ambassador Program brings together local businesses, clergy members and civic organizations to coordinate outreach and make services more accessible.
Our sponsors are local and national companies who prioritize hiring veterans and offer on the job training.
Our veterans sacrificed more than most of us can imagine. It’s our turn to give back.
A veteran is someone who at one point in their life wrote a “Blank Check” for an amount up to and including their life. Honor. Sacrifice. Country first!”
Why did you start HD Vet Co?
I’m a Marine. We don’t leave our people behind. The issues veterans are facing is our new battlefield.
What's the criteria for receiving help?
We consider a veteran to be anyone who has served or is serving in the military or the reserves.
So that’s the only criteria. This is a coalition not only for our veterans, but for our community. We want to connect as many people as possible.
Who's falling through the cracks?
The most obvious are homeless veterans. But suicide is a huge issue too – the inability to access mental health services is huge.
But there’s also too many service members living in poverty or substandard housing.
What about their families?
There’s no question that families need support, particularly when service members have been deployed in combat.
We prioritize help for surviving spouses who can feel isolated and alone after their loss.
How do you do all this?
I don’t – WE do. The whole idea of HD Vet Co is to bring the community together to make sure our vets are cared for the way we promised they would be.
The vision is a collective of different service providers, business owners, veterans, clergy and volunteers as advocates.
Dignity. Honor. Courage.
We strengthen our values in our community when we honor the sacrifices they’ve made.
Even the strongest among us sometimes need a hand up. And the families of those who ever came home should not feel forgotten.
Too many veterans are facing quality of life issues – poverty, isolation, addiction, loneliness.
They stepped up. We can too.
